A big thank you for all parents and players for their support and willingness to make Jhb Metro Chess a success. We appreciate your patience as we try to manage all arrangements and logistics. We had delays in finalisation of coaches and them agreeing to appointments, as well as logistical issues in getting available venues for training.
If you have not confirmed or declined your child's attendance of SAJCC in Dec, please do so urgently.
Please take note of the following arrangements:
Sunday’s training sessionVenue: Florida Park High School, 25 The Hwy, Florida, Roodepoort, 1709Time: 9am to 12pmParking: We will collect R10 for parking, to help pay for the caretaker.General notes: We will get together in the assembly area, and then the teams will go to their respective classrooms with the coaches. PLEASE : Confirm attendance
Then we will share general SAJCC information to the parents, including:
Based on availability, SAJCC regulations, and considerations from coaches and the selection committee, we will present final teams on Sunday.
We will present the list of coaches per team. And discuss the way forward regarding coaching and manage expectations (from parents view, as well as coaches view)
- Finances – Payments/Sponsors/fundraising
We will give some insights into the JMC finances, sponsors and any efforts by parents to help with fundraising to lower overall costs per player. And possibly start building a kitty for next year, since it will be away from Jhb. I will also confirm all payments received from players, and managers will continue to manage this going forward.
We have a small handful of parents who requested to be team managers this year. We do require more parents to help with the teams, in collecting papers, arrange get togethers for training, and daily management at SAJCC. This year we will have one or two training sessions for managers.
For new parents we will discuss the clothing and options. We are looking at new suppliers, but this might only be for next year onwards due to the timing.
We will have an Inter Region event against Ekurhuleni Chess, which they will host. I will discuss more about this in the session, but in short:
- Date 6 October
- Venue Ekurhuleni (Boksburg) (tbc)
- Format 5 player teams (with individual Round Robin), thus each player in the team will play against all 5 of the other team.
- Time Control, 60/60
- Chessa Rated
- Cost will be around R80 a player
We do urge parents to become more involved, not just with Jhb Metro, but also get involved with the clubs. It is easier to shout from the side than it is to assist in making it better. For next year, Jhb Metro Exco plans to have more own-hosted events that will count towards qualification for next year. But we need assistance at these events, from on-the day running, to venue organisation, to possible event sponsors. I also need some volunteers to overhaul the website.
